First Arrest Made in 2017 Simi Valley Rape Case Involving 'Scream' Masks

Ventura County investigators have made the first arrest in a 2017 sexual assault case where a woman was attacked by a group of men wearing masks inspired by the horror franchise "Scream." The arrest occurred last month, nearly a decade after the initial incident.

Ricardo Jimenez-Garcia, 39, is accused of participating in the violent assault that took place on September 21, 2017, in Simi Valley. According to prosecutors, the victim was walking to work around 4 a.m. when the men, brandishing a knife, attacked her.

The Ventura County District Attorney’s Office announced the arrest, though the specific details or new evidence leading to Jimenez-Garcia's apprehension have not been disclosed. The office has requested public assistance for any further information regarding Jimenez-Garcia, the 2017 attack, or any other potential victims who may have experienced similar assaults.

Court records indicate that Jimenez-Garcia faces charges of rape and sodomy. He has entered a plea of not guilty to these charges.
