Alvarez Rejects Man City Return Amid Transfer Saga

Manchester City reportedly made a late attempt to sign Julian Alvarez, but the striker has turned them down, preferring a move away from the Premier League.

Alvarez's future remains uncertain after he reportedly missed three consecutive Atletico Madrid training sessions. According to Cadena SER, his priority is a transfer to Barcelona, and he's adamant about not returning to England.

Despite Arsenal reportedly targeting the player, his rejection of Manchester City doesn't necessarily signal good news for the Gunners. The report indicates that City offered Alvarez a second spell at the Etihad Stadium, which he declined due to his reluctance to play in the Premier League.

While Alvarez is a talented player, it's debatable whether he would significantly strengthen teams like Arsenal or Manchester City. Barcelona's interest is understandable, as they need a high-profile forward to replace Robert Lewandowski.

At Manchester City, Alvarez often struggled to secure a starting spot due to the presence of Erling Haaland. Similarly, at Arsenal, Viktor Gyokeres and Kai Havertz could be sufficient options upfront for the upcoming season. Last season, Gyokeres outperformed Alvarez in goals scored, hitting 21 across all competitions compared to Alvarez's 20. Havertz has also shown good form following his injury return.

Alvarez boasts an impressive career tally of 154 goals, with 139 from 332 club appearances and 15 in 59 international caps for Argentina. However, these numbers might not justify Arsenal investing heavily in a transfer saga when the player appears unwilling to join.
