Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has ignited excitement among Arsenal fans, suggesting they should "get ready" for a potential move for Manchester City star Julian Alvarez, stating the transfer is "not impossible."
Alvarez, who has been linked with Arsenal and Barcelona throughout the summer, has reportedly favored a move to Barcelona. However, Romano's latest update hints that the situation could be more fluid than previously thought, especially with Atletico Madrid's stance.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano revealed that Atletico is open to selling Alvarez, and the player's decision is key. "If any moment Julen Alvarez or his agent call Arsenal and tell them ‘okay we want to come’ because there is no other way, well, Arsenal will be ready," he explained. "So get ready for this scenario because it’s not impossible. Arsenal are there for Julian and we have to follow the situation, but this depends on the player."
Romano added that while Alvarez has consistently expressed a desire for Barcelona, the club's CEO has publicly shut down any possibility of a move to Barcelona, even for the future. This strong statement from Atletico suggests they might be more amenable to other offers, including one from Arsenal, if Alvarez decides against staying in Madrid and Barcelona is off the table.
Arsenal has already made some strong signings this summer, bringing in Bruno Guimaraes and Ezri Konsa to bolster their midfield and defense. While Christos Tzolis adds depth out wide, a top-tier striker remains a priority after an inconsistent season from Viktor Gyokeres. Adding Alvarez would significantly strengthen their attack, potentially making them serious contenders for major honors, especially after their Champions League final appearance last season.
