Arsenal has signaled they possess the financial capability for an ambitious move for striker Julian Alvarez, but the player's heart remains set on joining Barcelona.
According to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal has made contact regarding Alvarez's situation, indicating their willingness to pursue a deal if the player's stance shifts. However, Alvarez's priority is firmly with Barcelona, not Arsenal.
Romano explained on his YouTube channel that while a move to the Emirates Stadium seems unlikely now, Arsenal has informed those close to the deal that they could re-enter negotiations. This would only happen if Alvarez himself decides to open the door to English football and a move to Arsenal.
The journalist emphasized that Alvarez isn't rejecting Arsenal specifically, but his sole desire is a transfer to Barcelona. This preference reportedly extends beyond Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham, Bayern, and PSG, with Barcelona being his only target club.
Despite Alvarez's clear preference, Arsenal has reportedly sought information from Atletico Madrid following a meeting in London. Their message is understood to be that while they respect the player's high valuation and his desire to join Barcelona, they are financially capable of making a move if Alvarez changes his mind within the next eight days.
Alvarez could offer Arsenal a different dynamic, especially considering the team's goal-scoring record last season, which was lower than title rivals. With questions surrounding the form and fitness of other attacking options like Viktor Gyokeres, Kai Havertz, and Gabriel Jesus, a talent like Alvarez, who boasts 49 goals in 106 games for Atletico Madrid and previous Premier League experience with Manchester City, might seem appealing. However, it remains a debate whether he represents a significant enough upgrade to justify the considerable transfer fee.
