Newcastle United has put Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba on their summer wishlist as they look to rebuild their midfield following significant departures. The Magpies are now facing the challenge of replacing key players after losing Bruno Guimarães to Arsenal for £75 million and Sandro Tonali, creating an urgent need for a powerful central midfielder.
Baleba's Premier League experience, athleticism, and ball-carrying skills make him an attractive prospect for Newcastle. This development also puts them in direct competition with Manchester United, who have been monitoring the Cameroonian international for some time.
According to reports, Baleba is a primary midfield target for Newcastle as they seek replacements for Guimarães and Tonali. The 22-year-old could offer a younger, long-term solution for St James' Park.
Manchester United's interest adds intrigue to the situation. While they have previously considered Baleba, an injury has reportedly complicated their pursuit for now. However, Newcastle's entry into the race presents a potential setback for United, especially given Newcastle's clear need and the substantial funds available from recent player sales.
Newcastle's need for midfield reinforcements, combined with their financial flexibility, could lead to an aggressive pursuit of Baleba while Manchester United hesitates. Although Brighton is known for tough negotiations and Baleba's injury adds complexity, United cannot afford to assume he will remain available if he is a long-term priority for them.
