Liverpool is standing firm on keeping attacker Cody Gakpo this summer, shutting down speculation linking him with Premier League rivals like Tottenham. The club's strategy is focused on strengthening their forward line, not weakening it, especially with Mohamed Salah's departure creating a need for new attacking talent.
Gakpo is seen as a crucial, versatile player in the squad, capable of playing on the left wing and through the center. Letting him go to a domestic competitor would create an unneeded headache for Liverpool, who are already in the market for a new match-winner, with Bradley Barcola reportedly a top target.
According to reports, Liverpool has no intention of parting ways with Gakpo, despite Tottenham's known admiration for the Dutch international. Spurs are looking to add another attacker who can operate across the front line as part of their squad rebuild.
Gakpo offers physicality, smart movement, and reliability in multiple attacking positions. While his consistency has sometimes been questioned, removing him before securing a suitable replacement would leave the team short on experienced options.
Liverpool's transfer window is at a critical juncture: they need to bring in a winger to compensate for Salah's output without creating another void by selling Gakpo. The club also has a 'Plan B' in place should their pursuit of Barcola prove too difficult, underscoring their commitment to bolstering their attacking options.
While Tottenham's aggressive spending might tempt Liverpool with an exceptional offer, selling to a direct rival would only strengthen them and increase the pressure on Liverpool's recruitment. Keeping Gakpo and bringing in someone like Barcola to add competition, rather than simply replace another departure, appears to be the sensible path forward.
