Manchester City is reportedly close to finalizing a massive £86 million deal for promising young midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi, who is seen as a potential long-term replacement for Rodri.
The Premier League champions have agreed personal terms with the 18-year-old Moroccan international and are in advanced negotiations with his current club, Lille. Bouaddi is considered one of the most exciting prospects in Europe's top leagues, making him an attractive candidate to fill the void left by City's influential midfielder Rodri.
Sources indicate that Bouaddi's potential arrival could be closely linked to Rodri's future. While the transfer fee is largely agreed upon, discussions are ongoing about whether the teenager will join City immediately or spend another season on loan at Lille. There's even a suggestion that Bouaddi's move could pave the way for Rodri's departure to Real Madrid.
Rodri has been an indispensable player for City, featuring in nearly 300 matches and contributing to multiple major trophy wins, including the historic treble in the 2022/23 season. Replacing his consistent performance and leadership will be a significant challenge, especially after his recent World Cup triumph with Spain.
Despite the potential loss of Rodri, City has also secured new signing Elliot Anderson for the midfield. However, the pressure to find a successor is immense. While Bouaddi shows immense potential, it might be premature for him to step directly into City's starting lineup. A season with Lille could be crucial for his development before a full integration into the Etihad squad.
This situation presents a complex challenge for new manager Enzo Maresca. With Pep Guardiola's departure and the potential exit of key players like Rodri, Bernardo Silva, and John Stones, Maresca faces the task of rebuilding a team that has enjoyed unprecedented success. While City's financial power allows for top-tier signings, the transition suggests a significantly different squad will take the field next season, making it harder to predict their continued dominance.
