Arsenal Poaches Tottenham Prospect Elijah Upson

Arsenal has reportedly secured a deal for highly-rated young centre-back Elijah Upson, who has rejected a new contract with rivals Tottenham to join the Gunners.

The 18-year-old defender, son of former Arsenal player Matthew Upson, is said to have agreed terms with Arsenal, marking a significant move across North London. News of the transfer was confirmed by renowned football journalist Fabrizio Romano, who issued his signature "here we go" confirmation this morning.

Romano announced on X, formerly Twitter: "Elijah Upson to Arsenal, here we go! Agreement signed today for 18 year old centre back to join Gunners project. Upson turned down new contract at Spurs to join #AFC for long term, all set to be announced."

Upson, though not yet a household name, has built a strong reputation within Tottenham's academy system. Reports had previously linked him with a host of top clubs, including Chelsea and Bayern Munich, but Arsenal appears to have won the race for his signature.

His father, Matthew Upson, began his senior career at Arsenal, playing 57 times for the club and winning a Premier League title before enjoying a solid career with other Premier League teams. Arsenal fans will be eager to see if Elijah can emulate and perhaps surpass his father's achievements at the Emirates Stadium.
