Former Premier League scout Keith Wyness believes Newcastle United is facing the inevitable departure of star midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, with Arsenal reportedly pushing for a £90 million transfer.
Wyness suggests that Guimaraes, described as the "heartbeat" and "heart and soul" of Newcastle, has expressed his desire to leave St. James' Park. The midfielder now holds significant leverage, especially if he is keen on a move to London to join the Gunners.
The transfer fee is a key sticking point, with Newcastle holding firm at £90 million. Wyness anticipates a negotiation where Arsenal might increase their offer and Newcastle could potentially lower their valuation, but ultimately, the player's wishes could sway the outcome.
"If he decides he wants to go to London and play for Arsenal, which I’m hearing he does, then I think you may see Arsenal make the deal sweet enough that Newcastle will have to accept it," Wyness told Football Insider. "It’s close enough that I think it can get done and structured in some way, and I think Newcastle can see the writing on the wall."
Wyness expects Guimaraes to actively push for the transfer, making it a challenging situation for the Magpies to navigate. The potential move is described as "gradually inching closer" as Arsenal aims to secure their target.
