Man Utd Goalie Set for Exit, Backup Search Underway

Manchester United is gearing up for another goalkeeping shake-up this summer, with reports indicating that Altay Bayindir is likely to depart Old Trafford in pursuit of more playing time. Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano confirms that the club's current strategy involves Bayindir moving on, while they actively seek a new backup keeper.

Bayindir, who is 28, hasn't managed to secure a regular spot since arriving at United and needs consistent minutes rather than just cup appearances. Keeping a keeper who isn't happy or getting enough game time wouldn't benefit anyone at the club.

Meanwhile, veteran keeper Tom Heaton has committed to staying for another year, filling the role of third-choice goalkeeper. The club announced the contract extension on their official website, with Heaton expressing his pleasure at remaining with the team. His experience, professionalism, and status as a homegrown player are seen as valuable assets throughout a demanding season.

With Bayindir's departure anticipated, United is now on the hunt for a new second-choice goalkeeper. Former academy player Sam Johnstone, currently at Wolves, has emerged as a potential target. A move for Johnstone would make strategic sense, given his familiarity with the club, Premier League experience, and acceptance of a backup role.

This approach appears sensible. Bayindir's potential move would be fair to the player, and Heaton's continued presence offers valuable leadership. The critical factor will be securing a dependable No. 2 who is content with their role but capable of stepping up when called upon.
